--- SUMMARY ---
We hear a lot about setting healthy boundaries. It’s good to know what limits we need for our own well-being and also to respect the boundaries set by others. Still, we must also realize that as we set boundaries in our relationships with others, we can also limit our emotional connection and life experiences.
As children our parents set boundaries for us, especially those that they hope will keep us safe. And as children we push those boundaries all the time! It is one of the ways we learn and grow, and with each push, we actually extend our boundaries.
As adults, our boundaries mean something a little different and they are for us to set and also to honor the boundaries of others.
• The Pros and Cons of Boundaries ~ As we set boundaries, we need be mindful of not only their anticipated benefits but also what we may miss through more restriction on relationships and, ultimately, a more limited life experience.
• How Do We Communicate Boundaries? ~ Perhaps the vague and/or non-verbal boundaries wreak the most havoc on our relationships. How can we be more explicit and compassionate in setting boundaries?
• When Others Erect Boundaries Toward Us ~ When is it okay to step back? What if the person setting the boundary is a close relative?
• Boundaries on Physical Touch and Intimacy ~ The last two years have conditioned most of us to expect and provide a six-foot distance from others. How do we know when others feel we are “invading their space”? Conversely, how can we lovingly express our preferences for space, touch, etc.?
• What’s Beneath Our Need for Boundaries? ~ Perhaps one of the most empowering steps in setting boundaries is to ask ourselves why we need them. Where is the root of our discomfort? Would it be healthier for US to PUSH our own boundaries?
This is going to be another amazing Soul Empowerment episode! Please join us for this month’s discussion about boundaries… and go from KEEP OUT to PEACE OUT! As always, your participation in the live chat is more than welcome!
